Origami & Math: Logi-gami, Strings, and More!

Logi-gami, Strings, and more! What do logic, origami, string art, and other similar activities have in common? Other than being favorites of Mr. Dailey, they incorporate many mathematical principles and offer a means for developing critical thinking, fine motor skills, and creativity. Come spend a week solving puzzles and creating works of mathematical artistry as we fold paper, draw lines, connect string, and see where our assumptions take us!

A Passport Through Painting and Drawing

This camp will start with building on our basic drawing skills
through observation. After some sketching, we will begin studying and practicing wenrenhua literati painting techniques, using the view from the second story Kirby porch as our muse. We will discuss and
practice both literal and imaginative landscape drawing and painting. In practicing these eastern painting techniques, and looking at art from many cultures, we will learn how to use our environment as a means to express our thoughts and feelings. We will also practice plein air drawing and painting (weather permitting) inspired by Cezanne. For a third project, I’d like one parent volunteer for a service learning
graffiti clean up day to offer to a local business in short walking distance from Kirby Hall. Lastly, we will end art camp with a gallery walk/art exhibit for friends and relatives to celebrate all of the creative efforts of our artists. Hope you can join us for a week of art fun in the shade, air condition, and small amounts of sun!

Troubadour Camp

Students will collaboratively write their own play, and create handmade backdrops and costumes that are inspired by various children’s stories. Students are also encouraged to bring some of their own favorite books to share as well. Once we have a general idea of what the play is going to be about, students will break up into groups based on their interest (writers, editors, set/costume designers, drawers, painters, etc.). The day will be broken up into sections of gaming, reading, writing, recess, snack times, drawing, and painting. On the last day of camp, students will present a short performance and gallery walk to parents, friends, and family to celebrate all of their hard work. Hope you can join us for one week of our multi-media troubadour art camp experience!
