We had an author come to Kirby Hall and give a presentation to our students on March 8! Bryan Mealer is a journalist and author of several books such as “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”, “All Things Must Fight to Live”, and his most recent book, “The Kings of Big Spring: God, Oil, and One Family’s Search for the American Dream”. Not only is he an accomplished writer, but he is also one of our wonderful parents at Kirby Hall. Bryan came to Kirby Hall to speak about the writing process and answer any questions.
Several topics were covered, such as:
- The importance of knowing and writing for your target audience and what your target genre is
- The process and the time involved: from idea, to research, to outline, to rough draft, to revisions, to final draft, to printed book
- The importance of each part of the process
- The idea of an editor and the importance of accepting constructive criticism
Kirby Hall is grateful to Bryan Mealer for taking the time to speak with the students and encourage their creative writing side. Also, a big Thank You to Summer McInernery (2nd Grade Teacher), for setting up this invaluable presentation!
