KHS is 50 Years YOUNG & Growing!

This year marks the school’s 50th anniversary of opening our doors in 1976 to students in a handful of grades. We are now more than 125 students strong across nine grades, and we are still growing!

While much in Austin has changed over the past fifty years, much has remained constant at Kirby Hall, like our dedication to:

• Treating each other with Kindness, Humility & Respect
• Creating a sense of Community where everyone belongs and feels welcome
• Prioritizing Hands-On Learning and exploring our community outside the classroom
• Inspiring Creativity and Curiosity in students while helping them to strengthen their unique talents and Critical Thinking Skills

One thing that has changed and grown over the years at Kirby Hall is our athletics program.

KHS Athletics: TODAY

Physical education and sports have always been an integral part of the Kirby Hall experience, teaching students about the importance of teamwork and how practice and dedication can help you achieve your goals (both on and off the field).

In the past several years, the number of sports teams we offer has increased greatly along with the number of students participating.

Last year alone:

• 88% of students eligible (in 2nd through 6th grades) participated in at least one sport
• KHS supported 11 sports teams across three seasons
• All of our teams made it to the first round of APSA League championship play, with our Girls Soccer team earning the 2nd place trophy for the entire league (Spring 2026)

For our 50th anniversary, we’d love to give them (and all of our students) a new gym!

 

What would a larger gym space mean for Kirby Hall?

A larger gym structure to be constructed brand new and separate from our main building is essential for our growing student body. It would afford us the following:

• A bigger, more modern space for P.E. classes and Athletics
• Potential space to now host other schools/teams for competition play
• A new community space for the whole school to gather for things like monthly assemblies, cultural presentations, music & drama performances, holiday and social activities

As we celebrate this memorable milestone of making it to the other side of 50, we ask for your support in helping to create this new gym and gathering space for our current students and those who are eager to join us in the coming years.

*We have already received a generous amount of seed funding for the initial phase of this multi-year campaign in the amount of $60,000 via individual and corporate contributions. The initial phase will include, among other activities, securing architect bids, renderings, site surveys, permitting, and demolition, etc.

**KHS is currently seeking a matching donor for $60,000 to be included in planning privileges and make contributions to a steering committee.
